introduction

Coatings and sealers are used for many reasons. They are used for protection from chemical attacks, visually enhanced decorative systems, create slip resistance, eliminate concrete dusting, eliminate moisture penetration, reduce maintenance cost, repair surfaces and create electrostatic dissipative surfaces.

Coatings and sealers can be used in garages, assembly plants, airplane hangers, industrial facilities, food processing plants, storage facilities, retail establishments, and others. Many coatings are seamless and this makes them an excellent choice for food service facilities.

Sealers are designed to partly penetrate and coatings are a topical application. Coatings can be as thin as 1 mil up to 250 mils thick. The higher mil products are good for filling imperfections and leveling floors.

These products come in an array of finishes and a full pallet of colors. They can be a high gloss, rough slip resistant, smooth to a dull flat finish.

There are many systems that are considered "green" building products and can add points towards LEAD certification.

Choosing a Floor Coating

Enamels are industrial type paints used in light use industrial or foot traffic areas that could be exposed to mild chemical spills. This is the lowest cost topical coating solution.

Urethanes are hard, have excellent abrasion resistance and above average chemical resistance.

Epoxies are two part systems that are mixed together. Epoxy coatings are very hard, perform well from impacts and extremely chemical resistant. Many epoxies discolor when exposed to UV light. Epoxies are excellent at repairing extremely degraded floors and for use in high traffic areas.

Quartz Systems are decorative systems consisting of epoxy and colored quartz.

Most of Cuviello Concrete coating work incorporates a decorative application that includes colored epoxy, paint chips, colored quartz and sometimes a combination of one or more. These systems are typically a 100% solid based, two part epoxy that sometimes incorporates the use of a urethane depending on the desired outcome.
